In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to overlook the obvious. We rush through life, searching for peace, happiness, and a sense of belonging. In this constant pursuit, we often allow both the good and the bad to enter our mindset—without filtering what truly serves us.

Why Is Filtering Important?

Great question.

When good things come our way, we welcome them with open arms. Why? Because they fuel our emotions, elevate our well-being, and reinforce a positive mindset.

But what about the bad?

If it’s the opposite of good, if it doesn’t contribute to our growth, and if it drains our energy—then naturally, we don’t want to embrace it.

So, how do we make the best use of these negative experiences?

In its simplest form—we learn from them.

By asking the right questions, we can reframe our perspective, extract lessons, and use challenges to our advantage instead of letting them defeat us.

The Power of Questions

“Okay,” you might say, “but what kind of questions should I be asking?”

Here are a few that can help shift your mindset the next time a problem arises:

  • If my superhero faced this problem, how would they handle it?
  • If I could replay this situation, would I see what it was trying to teach me?
  • How can I better prepare for this if it happens again?
  • How would someone who isn’t emotionally affected by this respond?
  • Am I overthinking this because of past experiences?
  • What outcome would I have preferred, and how can I create that in the future?

Turning Darkness Into Light

At the heart of it all, ask yourself:

What has this problem taught me, and how can I use it as armor for the future?

Every challenge carries value. Every setback holds a lesson. When we take the time to filter, reflect, and adapt, we transform adversity into wisdom, resilience, and strength.

One day, you’ll look back and smile, knowing that your filters worked. You made light from the darkness.
